Looking for.. a well deserved rest!

I once knew a girl

who would just stand there and stare.

At anyone or anything,

she seemed not to care.

She'd stare at the ground,

She'd stare at the sky.

She'd stare at you for hours,

and you'd never know why.

But after winning the local staring contest,

she finally gave her eyes

a well deserved rest.

(Staring girl from Tim Burton's The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories, online version available here.)

***

I had an appointment for the optician on Saturday and after complaining sore eyes and aches it turns out my glasses have become too strong for me! I wasn't promised a future without glasses but my eyes should get happier once the new pair of eyes -no, glasses!- arrive; so, nothing as radical as for the staring girl but nevertheless I'm hoping it to feel as a well deserved rest.

Burton's book ended up to fill my yet oh-so-heavy hand luggage on my way back home from ZA in the beginning of December. I just couldn't resist when I was let loose at the stunning Kalk Bay Books: I was staying over at a friend's house right next door to it and the book store sort of jumped on my way every time I left her house to hit the beach, browse the boutiques or meet with a friend. Good times. I red this book aloud in bed at nights and we giggled at the wicked and some what disturbing sense of humour Mr. Burton has.

(Edit: Oh no the images turned out blurry and seem to require a white background -I'll see what I can do once I find both time and energy. Well that's a lie, I propably wont fix it anyway. So my apologies, especially to Mr. Burton for messing up his illustrations. Check out the link for better ones :-) Cheers, Martta)

Vai että uudet silmälasit... Onneksi näkö paranee eikä huonone! :)

Ollaan muuten vissiin tulossa tämän kuun lopussa taas Suomeen. Vaarin hautajaiset...

Osanotot. Mutta tervetuloa taas Suomeen. Taidetaan mennä ristiin kun mä olen just reissussa kuunvaihteessa.
