Happiness hides in the dark corners, too

This missy is missing the darkroom! / Iksu ikävä pimiöön!

Viime kevään peruselementit: Kaksi tyttöä, pimiö, vaimeaa musiikkia taustalla, punavalo, suurennuskojeiden naksutus, kellon sekuntiviisari, valokuvapaperin kiilto, tuulettimen humina, narulla roikkuvat koepalat, valopöyvällä ajelehtivat negat, osavalotuksen vaikeus ja naurettava onnellisuuden tunne siitä, kun yksikin filmille kuvatuista otoksista kääntyy paperille kauniisti. Me opitaan toistemme kuvat ja pohditaan sopivia valotuksia, kontrasteja ja aukkoja -siis neljä sekuntia jää vaaleeks, mut kuus on jo ihan liian tumma -ehkä joku neljä puol.. Ja sitten yhteen ääneen: tai hei laitetaan 4,7! Kello on usein lipsahtanut yli puolen yön kun me kiivetään pimiöstä kolmanteen kerrokseen ja toivotetaan hyvät yöt keittiössä, ennenkuin hävitään omiin käytäviimme.

Also this

Hello!

-I've changed the look of my blog a bit. But, alas, the old settings of the texts won't go hand in hand with the new layout so some of the older entries got messy. I'll keep fixing them one by one, little by litlle.. I can openly admit I'm operating at the limits of my technical skills here with this whole blogging thing, so hickups are more than expected. But I'll keep practising.

-Then, I noticed from the stats I got more followers than I had thought. So there must be people apart from my mom and few friends who have also stumbled upon Poni ja Pippuripuu. Who are you? How did you end up here? Was it a mistake or did you even come back?

-Oh and one last thing: I started another blog. Because I really wanted to. It won't replace this one, this is my space to write and put up photos (I especially like to post travel accounts!). But maybe the other one leaves more space to think. At least for myself. And it's so easy to create a new blog, it's like you'd play a game called ''design your own book/magazine/column'' -and you get whatever crap published, too. Exciting! Blogs are cool.

Subheadings on a Journey Towards Balance, my latest creation. Got a little carried away with the title there.. but I like it!

Have a marvelous weekend!

Love,
Martta

Heippa!

Blogit on kivoja.

Subheadings on a Journey Towards Balance on uusin luomukseni. Nimeäminen lähti kulkemaan vähän omia polkujaan.. mutta pidän siitä!

Mahtavaa viikonloppua!

Love,
Martta

Year booking

Year book page by Anna Martta.

I absolutely suck with Photoshop so I am incredibly proud I managed to attach THAT MANY pomegranates on one page -all on my own! Hahahahaaaa hysteric laughing here. Then, it was the scissors and glue that rocked my world and so my year book page is ready.

VK stands for valokuvaus which means photography. PG!

I've gone mad, confessed.

Foolishness!

Terveisiä silkkipainopajalta!

Seulan rakennus, lakkaus, kuvan rasterointi, seulan emulsiointi, kuvan valotus seulalle ja satamiljoonaa muuta välivaihetta. Sitten painamaan! Kokeilin painaa parille erilaiselle kankaalle sekä paperille. Halusin jotain aika yksinkertaista, joten painoin ensin mustalla. Sekoitin sitten värin, joka kuivana olikin tumma sininen eikä niinkään purppuraan taittava musta joten sekoitin vielä kolmannen tummanpurppuran sävyn.

Oma silkkipaino-kuvani osoittautui varsinaiseksi musteläiskä-testiksi.

Siinä on
-koira ja maapallo!
-toukkia!
-telluksen mantereet ja munasarjoja!
-mätä omena tai halloween-kurpitsa!
-kaksi skorppioonia tai koiranpaskaa!
-joulupallo!

Mitä sinä näet?

Amateur in the darkroom

The scanner does evil things to my photos. Decided to share them anyway as it was so much fun to mess around in the darkroom. These are my first tests from this week -the last and only time I've been before was some ten years ago!

From the originals my favorite is that high-key photo of birds on cables, but in the scanned versions that's the one that suffered the most. I don't have any tools to retouch it on my own laptop as I seldom (well, never) bother to retouch anything I blogg (or in general, actually), but I'll tell you verbally that in the original the cables do continue smoothly to the borders of the photo and the sky only looses the flat gray shade faintly to the bottom end of the picture (so use your imagintaion, hah, this is the best I can do for now). All these pics were taken within an hour in a small village in the Finnish countryside where my school is, just before we went to develop the films, and the day was gray cloudy winter day. I had time to snap 17 photos in total. I'm quite very happy how they turned out. I'm loving this whole film and develop and wait and never know what comes out until it's actually on paper -thing, it must be some sort of a hangover of these digital times.

To be continued. I'll keep practising.

Now I'll head outdoors. It's yet another gray winterday awaiting for me! Or is that sun peeking behind the clouds? I'm going to find that out. Just one more thing: should I grab my digital camera with me or test out the old film one I got back to life yesterday with a new set of batteries?
